The Church: A Who? A Where? Or A When?
We
believe that the church is not a service you go to. It's
not a place you go to. The church is the people.
In
reality, you can't do church or go to church. You
can only be the church.
We
don't want to be just a group of strangers who sit
together on Sundays. We're
a group of friends who want to be the church, not just go
to church.
We
want to be a diverse group of friends who are united in purpose
and love.
We believe that success in life only comes when you walk with
God and others on the journey of life. (See more here.)
A
New Kind Of Church
We've met in at two different schools in Palo Alto over the last
two years.
We're currently
experimenting with a "hybrid church" mode where
we are combining larger gathering "worship experiences"
at the CineArts Theater
in Palo Alto and smaller gathering "house church"
type groups. We meet in these different "modes" on different
Sundays throughout the year.
These fulfill
the basic need we all have of wanting to be a part of
something bigger than us and also being a part of a group
where we can be known. (See more about this here.)
We're focusing
on ministerng people who are 20's - 40's, but all ages are welcome!
We also feel called to reach out to Stanford students and other
students.
We're trying
to really focus on being "incarnational" and be
out in the community and not just "attractional"
- waiting for people to come to us.
Two simple outreaches
we've done:
1. A "Donut
Outreach" - We delievered donuts to all the Palo Alto Police
and Fire Depts. It was really cool. They really appreciated it and
we had a lot of fun! :)
2. An Easter
Outreach for a single Mom's home in East Palo Alto.
We are currently
about 42 people - 30 or so adults and 12 kids (8 years and under.)
We have people anywhere from their early 20's to early 40's.
We have marrieds, marrieds with kids, students and singles.
We're
a pretty new church. Our first public gathering was January
23, 2005. If you want to be on the ground floor of something
